Origin & Breeding History: 'Bonsca 1160' originated as a cross between five proprietary Scaevola aemula varieties in an isolated area at Bonza Botanicals Pty Limited in Yellow Rock, New South Wales, Australia between October 2009 and April 2010. Seeds from the resulting progeny were germinated and grown to maturity. From these, one plant was selected in Yellow Rock, New South Wales, Australia on March 15, 2011 based on its growth habit and flower colour. The selected plant was propagated by cuttings and grown in pots. A trial to examine botanical characteristics was conducted from March 2011 to March 2013. After determining that the new variety was uniform, stable and distinguishable from any other varieties, it was named 'Bonsca 1160'.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'Bonsca 1160' was conducted in a polyhouse during the summer of 2017 in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included a total of 15 plants each of the candidate and reference variety. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 13 cm pots on June 4, 2017. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or 10 parts of plants, of each variety on July 20, 2017. All colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
