Summary: The plants of '210197' are taller than those of the reference varieties. The leaf shape of '210197' is pointed ovate whereas it is triangular for 'DH410SCN' and rounded ovate for 'Thames'. The pod of '210197' is medium brown whereas the pods are light brown for both reference varieties. The plants of '210197' flower very early whereas those of both reference varieties flower early to mid-season.

HYPOCOTYL: no anthocyanin colouration
LEAF: medium to strong blistering, dark intensity of green
LATERAL LEAFLET: pointed ovate, medium size
FLOWER: violet
POD: medium brown
SEED: yellow testa, light brown hilum
Origin & Breeding History: '210197' originated from a controlled cross conducted by Richard DeWachter, in Otterville, Canada. The cross was made between proprietary sister lines 0301 and 0306 in 2001. Bulk selection was made from the F1 progeny and grown out in 2002. Five plants were selected from the F2 progeny and grown out in 2003. Single plant selection was carried our annually through to 2007. Seed from this final selection was increased from 2008 to 2012 growing seasons. Selections were based on plant phenotype, agronomic performance and yield.
Tests & Trials: Tests and trials were conducted in Otterville, Ontario during the 2013 and 2014 growing seasons. Plots consisted of 3 rows with a row length of 61 metres and row spacing of 38 cm with plant spacing of 20 cm. Measurements were taken from 20 plants or parts of plants of each variety per year. Mean differences were significant at the 5% confidence probability level based on a paired Student's t-test.
