Origin & Breeding History: 'AAC Shinju' originated from the cross 'AC Colibri' / 'AC Albatros' // 'AC Pinson' / 3 / 'Nannonatto', conducted in 2004 at the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Ottawa Research and Development Centre, Ottawa, Ontario. The F2 population was grown in Ottawa in 2004 and was advanced using the pedigree selection method. In 2006, selected F5 rows were grown in the field and bulked for further evaluation. 'AAC Shinju' was tested as OT10-04 in Ottawa in 2007 and 2008 and at multiple locations since 2009. Selection criteria included adaptation and agronomic characteristics.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trials for 'AAC Shinju' were conducted during the 2015 and 2016 growing seasons at the Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada, Ottawa Research and Development Centre, Ottawa, Ontario. The trials consisted of four replicates per variety with four rows per replication. Plots were approximately 1.6 by 5 metres and were arranged in a randomized complete block design. Mean differences were significant at the 5% probability level based on LSD values.
