Summary: The hairs on the main stem of 'AAC Springfield' are grey whereas they are tawny on 'AAC Edward'. The plants of 'AAC Springfield' are shorter than those of 'AAC Halli'. The intensity of brown colour of the pods of 'AAC Springfield' is light whereas it is medium for 'AAC Edward'.

Origin & Breeding History: 'AAC Springfield' originated from the cross OT05-19 // 'AC Albatros' / 'Harovinton' conducted in 2005 at the Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada, Ottawa Research and Development Centre, Ottawa, Ontario. The F2 population was grown in Ottawa in 2005 and was advanced using the pedigree selection method. In 2009, selected F5 rows were grown in the field and bulked for further evaluation. 'AAC Springfield' was tested as OT13-05 in Ottawa in 2010 and tested at multiple locations since 2011. Selection criteria included high protein, adaptation and agronomic characteristics.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trials for 'AAC Springfield' were conducted in 2015 and 2016 at the Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada, Ottawa Research and Development Centre, Ottawa, Ontario. The trials consisted of four replicates per variety with four rows per replication. Plots were approximately 1.6 by 5 metres and were arranged in a randomized complete block design. The height data was based on data taken from 5 years of trials conducted at the Ottawa Research and Development Centre. Mean differences were significant at the 5% probability level based on a paired Student's T-test.
