Origin & Breeding History: '5PVKB69' originated from a cross between the variety 'P06A13R' and an experimental conversion of 'XB24N13' with Roundup Ready 2 Xtend herbicide tolerance, conducted in 2015 in Salinas, Puerto Rico using the pedigree method of plant breeding. From 2015 to 2017, eight generations were advanced between Salinas, Puerto Rico and Moorehead, Minnesota. The F1 line was harvested in bulk, followed by single seed descent selection and multiple single plant selections. Line purification rows were selected and harvested in bulk in 2017. Selection criteria included yield, maturity, herbicide tolerance and pest resistance. '5PVKB69' was selected at the F8 generation. Breeder seed production commenced in 2017.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trials for '5PVKB69' were conducted in Fergus, Ontario during the 2021 and 2022 growing seasons. Trials were planted in a RCB design and consisted of 3 replicates for each variety. Plots consisted of 4 rows, 5 metres in length and a row spacing of 76 cm. The trial consisted of 600 plants per variety. For each variety, the plant height was based on 30 measurements. Mean differences were significant at the 5% probability level based on a Student's t-test.
