Summary: The anthocyanin colouration in the hypocotyl of '5PZFF68' is absent whereas it is present for 'P003A97X'. On the middle third of the main stem, the pubescence of '5PZFF68' is tawny whereas it is grey for 'P003A97X'. At maturity, the hilum on the seed of '5PZFF68' is light brown whereas it is grey for 'P003A97X'. The plants of '5PZFF68' mature later than those of 'P003A97X'.

Origin & Breeding History: '5PZFF68' originated from a cross between the varieties 'XB005C10' and 'MONRR2YDT0.9' conducted in 2013 in Johnston, Iowa using the pedigree method of plant breeding. From 2013 to 2016, eight generations were advanced between Johnston, Iowa, Salinas, Puerto Rico, Viluco, Chile and Moorehead, Minnesota. The F1 line was harvested in bulk, followed by single seed descent selection and multiple single plant selections. Line purification rows were selected and harvested in bulk in 2016. Selection criteria included yield, maturity, seed quality traits, herbicide tolerance and pest resistance. '5PZFF68' was selected at the F8 generation. Breeder seed production commenced in 2016.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trials for '5PZFF68' were conducted in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba during the 2021 and 2022 growing seasons. Trials were planted in a RCB design and consisted of 3 replicates for each variety. Plots consisted of 4 rows, 5 metres in length and a row spacing of 76 cm. The trial consisted of 600 plants per variety.
