From 2015 to 2017, eight generations were advanced between Salinas, Puerto Rico and Cedar Falls, Iowa. The F1 line was harvested in bulk, followed by single seed descent selection and multiple single plant selections. Line purification rows were selected and harvested in bulk in 2017. Selection criteria included yield, maturity, herbicide tolerance and pest resistance. '5PJWM85' was selected at the F8 generation. Breeder seed production commenced in 2017.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for '5PJWM85' conducted in Thamesford, Ontario during the 2021 growing season was planted in a RCB design and consisted of 3 replicates for each variety. Plots consisted of 4 rows, 5 metres in length and a row spacing of 76 cm. The trial consisted of 600 plants per variety. Results were supported by the official technical examination report 202200025, purchased from the Plant Variety Protection Office, in Washington, District of Columbia, USA
