Origin & Breeding History: '5PGYD15' originated from a cross between the variety '91M10' and an experimental conversion of '93Y41' with Roundup Ready 2 Xtend herbicide tolerance conducted in 2013 in Redwood Falls, Minnesota using the pedigree method of plant breeding. From 2013 to 2016, seven generations were advanced between Redwood Falls, Minnesota and Waimea, Kauai, Hawaii. The F1 line was planted and harvested in bulk followed by multiple single plant selections. Line purification rows were selected and harvested in bulk in 2016. Selection criteria included yield, seed quality traits, maturity, herbicide tolerance and pest resistance. '5PGYD15' was selected at the F7 generation. Breeder seed production commenced in 2016.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trials for '5PGYD15' were conducted in Thamesford, Ontario during the 2022 and 2023 growing seasons. Trials were planted in a RCB design and consisted of 3 replicates for each variety. Plots consisted of 4 rows, 5 metres in length and a row spacing of 76 cm. The trial consisted of 600 plants per variety.
