Origin & Breeding History: P0009A28E' originated from a cross between two proprietary inbreds, conducted in 2018 at Johnston, Iowa. Between 2019 and 2020, seven generations were advanced across three locations: Johnston, Iowa; Algoma, Iowa; and Salinas, Puerto Rico. Selection criteria included yield, maturity, resistance to diseases and pests, and seed protein and oil content. P0009A28E' was selected at the F7 generation, and breeder seed production began in 2022.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trials for P0009A28E' were conducted in Carman, Manitoba, during the 2023 and 2024 growing seasons. Trials were planted in a RCB design and consisted of 3 replicates for each variety. Plots consisted of 4 rows, 5 metres in length and a row spacing of 76 cm. The trial consisted of 1740 plants per variety. Plant height was measured using 20 observations per variety per year, and seed weight was determined from three measurements of individual 100-seed batches. Mean differences were significant at the 5% probability level based on a Student's t-test.
