Variety Description
Varieties used for comparison: 'AAC Halli' and 'OAC Prudence
Summary: When 95% of the pods are ripe, the pubescence on the middle third of the main stem of CDC Cedar' is tawny whereas that of both reference varieties is grey. The seed weight of CDC Cedar' is less than that of both reference varieties. The plants of CDC Cedar' mature earlier than both reference varieties.
Description:
HYPOCOTYL: present
PLANT: indeterminate growth type, tawny pubescence on middle third of main stem, begins flowering early, matures very early

LATERAL LEAFLET: rounded ovate, small to medium sized
TERMINAL LEAFLET: ovoid, medium to large

HILUM: yellow
Origin & Breeding History: CDC Cedar' (experimental designation X6110-10') originated from the cross between OT16-01' and Gaillard' made in Ottawa, Canada in 2016. The resulting progeny was sent to the Crop Development Centre in Saskatoon, Canada. Selection criteria included grain yield, days to maturity, plant height, days to flowering, seed weight, disease resistance, protein content, and hilum colour in the F3 to F8 generations (from 2018-2022). Breeder seed was established in 2024 at the F9 generation.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trials of CDC Cedar' were conducted during 2024 and 2025 at the Crop Science Research Farm, University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. A four replicate, randomized complete block design was planted. The plot size was 3.35 square metres with a density of 81 plants per square metre. Seed weight was based on 16 measurements per variety per year. Mean differences were significant at the 5% confidence probability level based on a paired Student's t-test.
