Variety Description

Variety used for comparison: 'Goldmound'

Summary: The plants of ‘Golden Jack' have a semi-upright growth habit while those of ‘Goldmound' have an upright growth habit. The plants of ‘Golden Jack' are dense to very dense while those of ‘Goldmound' are dense. In summer, the current year`s shoots of ‘Golden Jack' are light brown while those of ‘Goldmound' are brown. In summer, the youngest leaves of ‘Golden Jack' are light green while those of ‘Goldmound' are yellow green. The leaf blade of ‘Golden Jack' is very short to short and very narrow to narrow while that of ‘Goldmound' is of a medium length and width. The leaf blade of ‘Golden Jack' is ovoid while that of ‘Goldmound' is elliptic. The plants of ‘Golden Jack' flower late in the season while those of ‘Goldmound' flower mid to late season.

Origin & Breeding History: ‘Golden Jack' originated from a cross pollination between the female parent ‘Golden Princess' and the male parent ‘Goldmound' conducted in the early summer of 1999 in Skierniewice, Poland. The new variety ‘Golden Jack' was selected in the spring of 2000 based on plant habit, seasonal foliage colour and flower colour. Asexual reproduction was first conducted by softwood cuttings in August 2000.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'Golden Jack' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 20201611, purchased from the Community Plant Variety Office, Angers, France. The trial was conducted at the Post-Registration Variety Experimentation Station of the Polish Research Centre for Cultivar Testing in Åšrem, Poland, from 2021 to 2022.
