Variety Description
Varieties used for comparison: 'Beauregard', 'Radiance', 'Belleview' and 'Nordany2'
Summary: The length of the internode on the stem of Nordany1' is shorter than that of the reference varieties. The depth of lobing of the leaf blade of Nordany1' is moderate while that of Belleview' and Beauregard' are shallow and that of Nordany2' is deep. The storage root of Nordany1' is elliptic and has a moderately compressed length to width ratio while that of Belleview', Beauregard', and Radiance' are oblong and have a medium length to width ratio and that of Nordany2' is oblong and has a moderately compressed length to width ratio. The skin of the storage root of Nordany1' is mainly orange while that of Belleview' and Beauregard' is brownish orange and that of Radiance' is red.

PETIOLE: absent or very weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration
YOUNG LEAF BLADE (UPPER SIDE): light green
LEAF BLADE: five lobes, moderate depth of lobing, very weak anthocyanin colouration of nectary
LEAF BLADE (UPPER SIDE): green excluding anthocyanin colouration, absent or weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration, absent or very small extent and very weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration on abaxial veins
STORAGE ROOT: elliptic shape, moderately compressed length to width ratio, thin cortex relative to overall diameter, shallow eyes

STORAGE ROOT FLESH: medium orange with orange secondary colour
Origin & Breeding History: 'Nordany1' originated from a cross, in 2017 in Peru. The cross from which Nordany1' originated was
between PZ06.085', as the female parent, and PJ07.061', as the male parent. From the resulting progeny, approximately 800 seeds were sown in an unirrigated field in Nicolet, Quebec, Canada in 2019. In 2023, one line designated as 'Nordany1' was selected after several field evaluations in Quebec and Ontario, during the past years, for its storage root shape, tuber skin and flesh colour, yield, general appearance, and cooking and frying qualities. All field and storage evaluations at different locations in Quebec as well in Ontario were conducted by Dr. Carlos Martin.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for Nordany1' was conducted in a field during the summer of 2025 in Lavaltrie, Quebec. The trial included a total of 50 plants each of the candidate and reference varieties. There were 2 replications per variety arranged in an RCB design. Plots consisted of 2 rows, each row 15 m long with an inter-row spacing of 0.30 metres. Observations and measurements on single plants were made on at least 30 plants. Mean differences were significant at the 5% probability level based on a t-test.
