Summary: The pubescence on the stem of 'Bondre 11100' is strong whereas it is moderate on 'Helica Dark Red'. The leaves of 'Bondre 11100' are narrower than those of 'Helica Dark Red'. The predominant position of the flower heads of 'Bondre 11100' is high above the foliage whereas that of 'Helica Dark Red' is level with or just above the foliage. The flower head diameter of 'Bondre 11100' is larger than that of 'Helica Dark Red'.

PLANT: erect growth habit, dense
STEM: dense pubescence
LEAF BLADE: broadest part in middle, acute apex, no variegation, medium green on upper side, medium density of pubescence on upper side, very sparse pubescence on lower side, weak to medium undulation of margin
PEDUNCLE: branching present
BUD: pointed apex, brown purple to dark purple red (redder than RHS 187A-B)
FLOWER HEAD: predominantly positioned high above foliage, lower and upper part concave in lateral view
INVOLUCRE: one colour
BRACT: multi-coloured, striations present, weak to medium degree of incurving
UPPER BRACT (INNER SIDE): middle and upper third dark purple red (closest to RHS 46A), lower third white (RHS NN155B) with yellow orange (RHS 13C) and dark purple red striations (RHS 46A)
LOWER BRACT (INNER SIDE): lower third white (RHS 155D), middle third white (RHS 155D) with dark purple red overtones (RHS 187C-D), upper third dark purple red (RHS 187B)
PAPPUS: yellow
Origin & Breeding History: 'Bondre 11100' originated from a controlled pollination conducted in October 2010, in New South Wales, Australia between the female parent, proprietary seedling '10-22' and the male parent, propriety seedling '10-30'. The initial selection of 'Bondre 11100' was made in March 2011. Selection criteria included flower size, flower colour, flower number and overall appearance.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'Bondre 11100' was conducted in a polyhouse during the summer of 2015 at BioFlora Inc. in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included 20 plants each of the candidate and reference variety. Rooted cuttings were transplanted into 11.5 cm pots on May 11, 2015. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or parts of plants, of each variety on June 16, 2015. All colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
