Variety Description

Varieties used for comparison: 'Albion', 'Cirano' and 'Florin Florina'

Summary: The colour on the upper side of the leaf blade on 'Favori' is medium green whereas the colour on the upper side of the leaf blade on 'Cirano' is dark green. The terminal fruit of 'Favori' is moderately different than the other fruit whereas the terminal fruit of 'Albion' is very slightly to slightly different than the other fruit. The fruit of 'Favori' has a large length to width ratio whereas the fruit of 'Florin Florina' has an equal length to width ratio.

Description:

PLANT: fruit bearing type is day neutral, semi-upright growth habit, medium to dense foliage, medium to strong vigour

STOLONS: very few to few, medium intensity of anthocyanin colouration, medium density pubescence

PETIOLE: medium to long, horizontal attitude of hairs
STIPULE: medium intensity of anthocyanin colouration
LEAF: large, medium green on upper side, medium degree of blistering, medium degree of glossiness on upper side, no variegation
TERMINAL LEAFLET: moderately longer than it is wide, acute base, serrate margin, straight in cross-section

TIME OF BEGINNING OF FLOWERING: early season
INFLORESCENCE: positioned at same level as foliage, few to medium number of flowers
PEDICEL: upwards attitude of hairs
FLOWER: calyx larger in relation to corolla, small to medium sized diameter, stamens present
PETALS: touching, length is equal to width, white on inner side

CALYX: level with fruit attachment, outwards attitude of sepals, slightly larger diameter in relation to the fruit, medium to strong adherence to fruit
TIME OF BEGINNING OF FRUIT RIPENING: very early to early season
FRUIT: much longer than wide, large to very large sized, conical shape, moderately different in shape between terminal fruit and other fruit, narrow to medium width of band without achenes
FRUIT SURFACE: medium red, slightly uneven colour distribution, strong glossiness, slightly uneven
ACHENES: level with fruit surface
FRUIT FLESH: medium to firm, light red, light red core, medium sized cavity

Origin & Breeding History: 'Favori' (experimental designation '04-75-01') was bred in 2004 in the Noordoostpolder, Netherlands by a controlled cross between 'Mara des Bois' and proprietary variety 'Flevo 01-77-11'. Further propagation was done by runners and selections were based on fruit taste, day neutral fruit bearing and fruit shape.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'Favori' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, reference number 20111346, purchased from the Community Plant Variety Office, Angers, France. The trials were conducted at Bundessortenamt, in Prüfstelle Wurzen , Germany from 2012 to 2013.
