Variety Description

Varieties used for comparison: 'Donna' and 'Lambada'

Summary: The leaf petiole of 'Allegro' is long to very long while the petiole of 'Donna' is medium to long. The anthocyanin colouration of the stolons of 'Allegro' is of very weak to weak intensity whereas that of 'Lambada' is of strong intensity.

Description:

PLANT: non remontant bearing type, upright growth habit, dense foliage, strong vigour
STOLONS: many, very weak to weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration, medium density pubescence

PETIOLE: long to very long, horizontal attitude of hairs
STIPULE: weak to medium intensity of anthocyanin colouration
LEAF: large, medium green on upper side, medium blistering, strong glossiness on upper side, no variegation
TERMINAL LEAFLET: moderately longer than it is wide, obtuse base, serrate margin, concave in cross-section

FLOWERING: begins mid-season
INFLORESCENCE: positioned at same level as foliage, medium number of flowers
PEDICEL: upwards attitude of hairs
FLOWER: calyx is same size in relation to corolla, medium to large diameter, petals touching, stamen present
PETAL: moderately shorter than it is wide, white on inner side
CALYX: same diameter in relation to diameter of fruit, medium to strong adherence to fruit, outwards attitude of sepals
FRUIT: begins ripening early, moderately longer than it is wide, large, conical shape, slight to moderate difference in shape between terminal fruit and other fruit of same fruit stalk, calyx attachment level with fruit, medium firmness
FRUIT SURFACE: medium red, evenness of colour is slightly uneven, strong glossiness, evenness of surface is slightly uneven, medium width band without achenes, achenes positioned level with surface
FRUIT FLESH: medium red, medium red core, medium sized cavity

Origin & Breeding History: 'Allegro' originated from a controlled cross conducted by the breeder in Eck en Wiel, the Netherlands. The cross was made in the spring of 2008 between the variety 'E2003-097' as the female parent and 'E2006-492' as the male parent. In the summer of 2010, 'Allegro' was selected in Eck en Wiel, the Netherlands based on its fruit quality, shape, appearance, high production; easy harvesting and earliness. 'Allegro' was first vegetatively propagated by runner plants in Eck en Wiel, the Netherlands in the fall of 2010.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'Allegro' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 2015/2430, purchased from the Community Plant Variety Office in Angers, France. The trials were conducted by the Bundessortenamt in Hannover, Germany from 2017 to 2018.
