Variety Description

Varieties used for comparison: ‘Musica', ‘Nandi', ‘Capriss' and ‘CIVN 260'

Summary: The plants of ‘CIVH725' have many stolons while the plants of ‘CIVN 260' have a medium number of stolons. The plants of ‘CIVH725' have few flowers while the plants of ‘Musica' have medium to many flowers. The calyx of ‘CIVH725' has a much larger diameter than the fruit while the calyx of ‘Capriss' is the same diameter as the fruit. The calyx of ‘CIVH725' has a weak adherence to the fruit while the calyx of ‘Nandi' has a medium to strong adherence to the fruit.

Description:

PLANT: semi-upright growth habit, medium to dense foliage, strong vigour, many stolons, partially remontant bearing type

STOLON: medium intensity of anthocyanin colouration, medium density of pubescence

PETIOLE: long, horizontal attitude of hairs
STIPULE: weak to medium intensity of anthocyanin colouration
LEAF: large to very large, dark green upper side, medium degree of blistering, strong glossiness, no variegation
TERMINAL LEAFLET: moderately longer than wide, acute base, serrate margin, concave in cross-section

FLOWERING: begins early to mid-season
PEDICEL: upwards attitude of hairs
INFLORESCENCE: same level as foliage, few flowers
FLOWER: large to very large diameter, touching arrangement of petals, calyx larger than corolla, stamen present
PETAL: moderately longer than wide, white upper side

CALYX: raised attachment, outwards attitude of sepals, diameter much larger than fruit, weak adherence to fruit
FRUIT: moderately longer than wide, large, conical shape, very slight to slight difference in shape of terminal fruit and other fruit, medium firmness, medium sized cavity, begins ripening early
FRUIT SURFACE: medium red, slightly uneven colour, strong glossiness, slightly uneven, narrow to medium width band without achenes, achenes level with surface
FRUIT FLESH: medium red, medium red core

Origin & Breeding History: ‘CIVH725' (experimental designation 4g7f-25) originated from a cross between two proprietary Consorzio Italiano Vivaisti (CIV) selections conducted in San Giuseppe di Comacchio, Ferrara, Italy, in June 2011. Based on plant growth habit, plant vigor, adaptability to tunnel or open field cultivation, ease of harvesting, fruit shape, resistance to handling, shelf life, productivity and second flowering, the new variety was selected in May 2013.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of ‘CIVH725' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 20212769, purchased from the Community Plant Variety Office in Angers, France. The trial was conducted by the Bundessortenamt in Hanover, Germany in 2023 and 2024.
