Variety Description
Varieties used for comparison: 'Portola' and 'Diamante'
Summary: The plants of CIVRH612' have few stolons whereas those of Portola' have a medium number of stolons and those of Diamante' have many stolons. The plants of CIVRH612' flower early whereas those of Portola' flower late. The inflorescence of CIVRH612' is positioned at the same level as the foliage whereas that of both reference varieties is positioned above the foliage. The leaf of CIVRH612' has a medium degree of blistering whereas that of Diamante' has a strong degree of blistering. The terminal leaflet of CIVRH612' is equally long as it is wide whereas that of Diamante' is much longer than it is wide. The base of the terminal leaflet of CIVRH612' is rounded whereas that of Portola' is acute and that of Diamante' is obtuse.
Description:
PLANT: semi-upright growth habit, sparse foliage, weak vigour, day neutral bearing type
STOLON: few, strong anthocyanin colouration, medium density pubescence
LEAF: small to medium size, medium green upper side, medium degree of blistering, medium degree of glossiness, no variegation
TERMINAL LEAFLET: length equal to width, rounded base, crenate margin, concave in cross-section
STIPULE: absent or very weak anthocyanin colouration
PETIOLE: short to medium, upwards attitude of hairs
FLOWERING: begins early
INFLORESCENCE: positioned at same level as foliage, medium number of flowers
PEDICEL: slightly outwards attitude of hairs
FLOWER: medium sized diameter, overlapping petal arrangement, calyx larger than corolla, stamen present
PETAL: length equal to width, white upper side
CALYX: attachment level with fruit, outwards attitude of sepals, diameter same size as fruit, medium strength adherence to fruit
FRUIT: length equal to width, large, ovoid shape, slight difference in shape between terminal fruit and other fruit, medium firmness, medium size cavity, begins ripening early
FRUIT SURFACE: medium red, slightly uneven colour, strong glossiness, strongly uneven, absent or very narrow band without achenes, achenes positioned below surface
FRUIT FLESH: light red, medium red core
Origin & Breeding History: CIVRH612' originated from a cross conducted between two proprietary parent varieties in May 2011 in San Giuseppe di Comacchio, Ferrara, Italy. CIVRH612' was selected in June 2013 based on type of bearing, production characteristics, fruit size, fruit flavour, fruit aroma, fruit shelf life, time of harvest maturity and duration of harvest season.
Tests & Trials: The detailed description of CIVRH612' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 2018/2554, purchased from the Community Plant Variety Office in Angers, France. The trials were conducted at the Escaroupim Studies Center - Agricultura, Florestas E Desenvolvimento Rural, in Portugal from 2019 to 2020.
