Variety Description

Varieties used for comparison: 'MYAGFRA-1' and 'Yumetsuzuki'

Summary: The upper side of the leaf of ‘MYAGMIE-1' is medium green while that of ‘MYAGFRA-1' and ‘Yumetsuzuki' are dark green. The terminal leaflet of ‘MYAGMIE-1' has an acute shaped base while that of ‘Yumetsuzuki' has an obtuse shaped base. The fruit surface of ‘MYAGMIE-1' has an absent or very narrow band without achenes while that of ‘MYAGFRA-1' has a narrow band without achenes.

Description:

PLANT: upright growth habit, dense foliage, strong vigour, medium number of axillary buds, stolons absent, non-remontant bearing type

PETIOLE: long to very long, horizontal attitude of hairs
STIPULE: medium intensity of anthocyanin colouration
LEAF: large, medium green upper side, absent or weak blistering, medium degree of glossiness, no variegation
TERMINAL LEAFLET: large to very large, moderately longer than wide, acute base, serrate to crenate margin, straight in cross-section

FLOWERING: begins mid to late season
PEDUNCLE: very long
PEDICEL: upwards attitude of hairs
INFLORESCENCE: same level as foliage, many flowers
FLOWER: medium to large diameter, touching arrangement of petals, calyx same size as corolla, stamen present
PETAL: equal in length and width, white upper side

CALYX: attachment level with fruit, downwards attitude of sepals, diameter slightly larger than fruit, medium strength adherence to fruit
FRUIT: medium size, moderately longer than wide, conical shape, none or very slight to slight difference in shape of terminal fruit and other fruit, no neck, firm, absent or small cavity, begins ripening late season, high to very high soluble solids, low to medium acidity
FRUIT SURFACE: medium red, even or very slightly uneven colour, strong glossiness, even or very slightly uneven, absent or very narrow band without achenes
ACHENES: dense, below fruit surface, medium intensity of anthocyanin colouration
FRUIT FLESH: orange red, light red core

Origin & Breeding History: ‘MYAGMIE-1' (experimental designation Berry Pop SUZU) originated from a cross between the Miyoshi & Co., LTD variety ‘KT1-6-15' and the Mie Prefecture variety ‘902521' conducted at the Miyoshi & Co. Ltd Shizuoka Farm in Shizuoka, Japan in 2018. The new variety ‘MYAGMIE-1' was selected in 2020 based on fruit size, brix content and yield.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of ‘MYAGMIE-1' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 34944, purchased from the Plant Variety Protection Office, Intellectual Property Division, Export and International Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in Japan. The trial was conducted by the Unzen Station, Center for Seeds and Seedlings, National Agriculture and Food Research Organization, 1494-35 Saigoubo, Mizuho, Japan in 2022 and 2023.
