Variety Description

Variety used for comparison: 'Fillicia'

Summary: The hairs on the petiole of ‘Cadenza' have an upwards attitiude while those of ‘Fillicia' have a horizontal attitiude.

Description:

PLANT: semi-upright growth habit, medium to dense foliage, strong vigour, many stolons, non remontant type bearing

STOLON: weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration, medium density of pubescence

PETIOLE: long to very long, upwards attitude of hairs
STIPULE: weak to medium intensity of anthocyanin colouration
LEAF: large, dark green upper side, absent or weak blistering, strong glossiness, no variegation
TERMINAL LEAFLET: moderately longer than wide, acute base, serrate margin, concave in cross-section

FLOWERING: begins late season
PEDICEL: upwards attitude of hairs
INFLORESCENCE: same level as foliage, few to a medium number of flowers
FLOWER: large diameter, overlapping arrangement of petals, calyx same size as corolla, stamen present
PETAL: equal length and width, white upper side

CALYX: attachment level with fruit, outwards attitude of sepals, diameter same as fruit, medium adherence to fruit
FRUIT: equal length and width, large to very large, conical shape, moderate difference in shape of terminal fruit and other fruit, medium sized cavity, begins ripening late in the season
FRUIT SURFACE: medium red, slightly uneven colour, strong glossiness, slightly uneven, narrow band without achenes, achenes level with surface
FRUIT FLESH: medium to firm, medium red flesh and core

Origin & Breeding History: ‘Cadenza' (experimental designation FE 2134) originated from a cross between two unnamed seedlings, E2012-1189, as the female parent, and E2008-002, as the male parent, conducted in Eck en Weil, the Netherlands in the spring of 2016. The new variety ‘Cadenza' was selected in 2018 based on fruit shape, fruit appearance, fruit adherence and yield.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of ‘Cadenza' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number20212253, purchased from the Community Plant Variety Office, Angers, France. The trial was conducted by the Bundessortenamt in Hanover, Germany, in 2023-2024.
