Variety Description

Varieties used for comparison: 'Fortuna' and 'San Andreas'

Summary: The plant of ‘PLARED 15105' has a medium density of foliage while that of ‘Fortuna' has a sparse to medium density of foliage. The stolon of ‘PLARED 15105' has a medium to strong intensity of anthocyanin colouration while that of ‘San Andreas' has an absent or very weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration. The leaf of ‘PLARED 15105' is small to medium in size while that of ‘Fortuna' is medium in size. The flower of ‘PLARED 15105' has a free arrangement of petals while that of ‘San Andreas' has a touching arrangement of petals. The fruit of ‘PLARED 15105' is medium to large while the fruit of ‘Fortuna' is large. The fruit surface of ‘PLARED 15105' has a narrow to medium band without achenes while that of ‘San Andreas' has an absent or very narrow band without achenes. The calyx on the fruit of ‘PLARED 15105' has a slightly smaller diameter than the fruit while that of ‘Fortuna' has a slightly larger diameter than the fruit. The fruit of ‘PLARED 15105' has an absent or small cavity while that of ‘San Andreas' has a medium sized cavity.

Description:

PLANT: semi-upright growth habit, medium density foliage, medium vigour, medium number of stolons, day-neutral bearing type
STOLON: medium to strong intensity of anthocyanin colouration, dense pubescence

PETIOLE: medium length, horizontal attitude of hairs
STIPULE: absent or very weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration
LEAF: small to medium size, medium green upper side, medium degree of blistering, medium degree of glossiness, no variegation
TERMINAL LEAFLET: moderately longer than wide, obtuse base, serrate to crenate margin, straight in cross-section

FLOWERING: begins very early to early season
PEDICEL: slightly outwards attitude of hairs
INFLORESCENCE: same level as foliage, medium to many flowers
FLOWER: medium diameter, free arrangement of petals, calyx same size as corolla, stamen present
PETAL: equal in length and width, white upper side

CALYX: raised attachment, upwards attitude of sepals, diameter slightly smaller than fruit, strong adherence to fruit
FRUIT: medium to large, moderately longer than wide, rhomboid shape, slight difference in shape of terminal fruit from other fruit, firm to very firm, absent or small cavity, begins ripening early to mid-season
FRUIT SURFACE: orange red, slightly uneven colour, narrow to medium width band without achenes, achenes below fruit surface
FRUIT FLESH: medium red, light red core

Origin & Breeding History: ‘PLARED 15105' (experimental designation 15.04R.199) originated from a cross between the varieties '09-55', as the female parent, and '09-25', as the male parent, conducted in Cartaya, Huelva, Spain in 2015. The new variety ‘PLARED 15105' was selected in 2017 based on maturity, fruit adherence, yield and fruit qualities such as brix content and taste.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of ‘PLARED 15105' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 20190170 purchased from the Spanish Plant Variety Office, Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food in Madrid, Spain. The trial was conducted by the Andalusian Institute for Agricultural and Fisheries Research and Training in Moguer, Huelva, Spain between 2019 and 2021.
