Description:

'Blisch' is a Sutera variety which has a horizontal to semi-drooping growth habit and many branches. The stems have strong to very strong anthocyanin colouration and no sticky glands. The leaves are simple and broad ovate in shape. The leaf margins are crenate serrate, with a moderate number of teeth. 'Blisch' has dark green leaves with no pubescence on the upper or lower surfaces.

'Blisch' has salverform shaped flowers with a corolla that has five, moderately defined lobes. The corolla lobes are partially fused and there is no undulation of the margins. The corolla tube has very short pubescence on the outside surface. The upper side of the corolla is white and the inner side of the corolla tube is yellow orange. The variety flowers early in the season.

Origin & Breeding History: 'Blisch' originated from a hybridization made in a controlled breeding program at Billerbeck, Germany. The female parent was the variety 'Blizzard', characterized by its white flowers. The male parent was the variety 'Lavender Storm', characterized by its lavender flowers. The initial selection was made in the summer of 2000.

Tests & Trials: Tests and trials for 'Blisch' were conducted in a polyhouse during the summer of 2004 in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trials consisted of 15 plants of each variety. The plants were grown from rooted cuttings, transplanted into 15cm pots on April 30th, 2004. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants of each variety on June 18th, 2004. All colour measurements were made using the 2001 RHS Colour Chart.
