Summary: The plants of 'SMNPBD' are shorter than the plants of 'Snow White' and taller than the plants of 'SMNPVG'. The plants of 'SMNPBD' are wider than the plants of 'SMNPVG'. The flower of 'SMNPBD' has a smaller diameter than the flower of 'Snow White' and a larger diameter than the flower of 'SMNPVG'.

PLANT: shrub type, ovoid (rounded) overall shape, bushy growth habit, dense branching, medium growth rate
SHOOT: red-brown, thin, medium pubescence, rounded in cross-section, smooth bark, absent or very sparse glaucosity, absent or very sparse number of lenticels and thorns
LEAF: simple type, opposite arrangement on stem
LEAF BLADE: ovate, acuminate (with acute tendencies) apex, obtuse and truncate base, dentate margin, weak waviness of margin, no lobing, no variegation, medium rugosity
LEAF BLADE UPPER SIDE: medium pubescence, medium green
LEAF BLADE LOWER SIDE: very strong pubescence, light green, absent or very weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration on veins
PETIOLE: present, absent or very weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration
FLOWER: solitary, rotate corolla shape, double flower type, 19 petals, white (RHS NN155B-NN155C) main colour of upper and lower side, medium fragrance
Origin & Breeding History: 'SMNPBD' originated from a selection of irradiated seeds of the variety 'Snowbelle' conducted in the summer of 2014 in Grand Haven, Michigan, U.S.A. 'SMNPBD' was selected as a single unique plant in 2015 based on plant habit, double-type flowers, and thick foliage. Asexual reproduction of 'SMNPBD' was first conducted by softwood cuttings in 2015 in Grand Haven, Michigan, U.S.A.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'SMNPBD' was conducted in a container trial during the spring and summer of 2022 at BioFlora Inc. in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included a total of 12 shrubs each of the candidate and reference varieties. Trials were arranged outdoors in rows with 1 metre spacing between plants. All observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or parts of plants, of each variety on July 5, 2022, except flowering characteristics which were taken on May 24, 2022. All colour determinations were made using the 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
