Variety Description

Variety used for comparison: 'Caprese'

Summary: The intensity of anthocyanin colouration of the upper third of the stem is very weak to weak for 'Idolini' whereas the intensity is medium for 'Caprese'. The size of the leaflets in the middle of the leaf of 'Idolini' is medium size whereas the size of the leaflets of 'Caprese' is medium to large. The upper side of the leaf is medium to dark green for 'Idolini' whereas it is medium green for 'Caprese'. The blossom end of the fruit of 'Idolini' is indented whereas the blossom end of the fruit of 'Caprese' is flat.

Description:

SEEDLING: anthocyanin colouration of hypocotyl present

PLANT: medium height, indeterminate growth habit
STEM: very weak to weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration on upper third, short to medium length of internode between first and fourth inflorescence

LEAF: semi-drooping attitude, medium to long, medium width, medium to dark green on upper side, weak to medium degree of glossiness on upper side, weak to medium degree of blistering, small blisters
LEAF BLADE: bipinnate type
LEAFLET: medium size, semi-erect to horizontal attitude of petiolule in relation to main axis

FLOWERING: begins early to mid-season
INFLORESCENCE: mainly uniparous type
PEDUNCLE: abscission layer present, medium length from abscission layer to calyx
FLOWER: no fasciation of first flower of inflorescence, yellow, pubescence of style present

FRUIT (BEFORE MATURITY): medium extent of medium to dark green shoulder, light green colour (excluding shoulder)
FRUIT: very small to small, very large length to diameter ratio, cylindrical shape in longitudinal section, round shape in cross-section, weak ribbing at peduncle end, very weak to weak depression at peduncle end, very small peduncle scar, very small blossom scar, indented at blossom end, small diameter of core in relation to total diameter in cross-section, very thin pericarp, two or three locules, red flesh at maturity, firm, matures early

Origin & Breeding History: 'Idolini' (breeder designation 72-154 RZ) originated from a controlled cross conducted in July 2008, in De Liers, Netherlands. From the resulting progeny, 'Idolini' was selected in 2009 for its uniform and stable fruit shape, taste, and plant growth habit.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'Idolini' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number TMT2396, purchased from Naktuinbouw, Roelofarendsveen, Netherlands. The trial was conducted by Naktuinbouw, Roelofarendsveen, Netherlands, from 2012 to 2013.
