Variety Description

Variety used for comparison: 'Bellioso'

Summary: The leaf of ‘Spirioso' is medium green while that of ‘Bellioso' is medium to dark green. At the peduncle end of the fruit, ‘Spirioso' has weak ribbing while ‘Bellioso' has very weak to weak ribbing. The fruit of ‘Spirioso' is lighter red than that of ‘Bellioso'.

LEAF BLADE (UPPER SIDE): medium green, weak glossiness, weak to medium degree of blistering
LEAFLET: large, semi-erect to horizontal attitude of petiole in relation to main axis of leaf

INFLORESCENCE: equally uniparous and multiparous type

FLOWER: yellow, pubescence of style present

IMMATURE FRUIT: small to medium extent of medium to dark green shoulder, light green skin (excluding shoulder), no green stripes

Origin & Breeding History: 'Spirioso' (breeder's reference 72-CK0623 RZ) originated from a controlled cross conducted between two proprietary lines in the spring of 2021 in De Lier, Netherlands. ‘Spirioso' was selected in the autumn of 2021 for its fruit colour, shape and size; and its compactness which is well suited for greenhouse production.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of ‘Spirioso' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number TMT4086, purchased from the Naktuinbouw in Roelofarendsveen, Netherlands. The trial was conducted by the Naktuinbouw in Roelofarendsveen, Netherlands in 2023 and 2024.
