Variety Description

Variety used for comparison: 'Reddery'

Summary: The leaf blade of 'Hyrule' is medium to long whereas that of 'Reddery' is of medium length. At maturity, the fruit of 'Hyrule' is smaller and darker red than that of 'Reddery'. The fruit of 'Hyrule' matures very early to early while that of 'Reddery' matures early.

SEEDLING: anthocyanin colouration of hypocotyl present

PLANT: indeterminate growth type, medium to tall
STEM: weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration, medium length internode

LEAF: semi-drooping attitude, medium to long, medium to broad, bipinnate type, medium green upper side, weak to medium degree of glossiness on upper side, weak to medium degree of blistering
LEAFLET: medium sized, semi-erect to horizontal attitude of petiole in relation to main axis

TIME OF FLOWERING: early
INFLORESCENCE: mainly uniparous type
FLOWER: yellow, pubescence of style present
PEDUNCLE: abscission layer present, very short to short
FRUIT (BEFORE MATURITY): small to medium extent of green shoulder, green shoulder is of dark intensity, intensity of green excluding shoulder is light, no green stripes
FRUIT: very small, medium ratio of length in relation to diameter, circular shape in longitudinal section, absent or very weak degree of ribbing at peduncle end, very weak to weak depression at peduncle end, very small peduncle scar, very small blossom scar, flat blossom end, small diameter of core in cross-section in relation to total diameter, very thin to thin pericarp, only two locules, red flesh at maturity, firm to very firm
FRUIT SKIN: red at maturity, strong glossiness

Origin & Breeding History: 'Hyrule' (breeders reference 72-CH0359 RZ) originated from a controlled cross conducted between two proprietary lines in the spring of 2021 in de Lier, Netherlands. In 2022, 'Hyrule' was selected for its stable fruit size, shelf life, fruit colour and disease resistance traits.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'Hyrule' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number TMT4010, purchased from Naktuinbouw in Roelofarendsveen, Netherlands. The trials were conducted by Naktuinbouw in Roelofarendsveen, Netherlands from 2022 to 2023.
