Variety used for comparison: 'Lanai Twister Burgundy'
Summary: Just after the start of flowering, the plants of 'KLEVP20052' are narrow while those of 'Lanai Twister Burgundy' are narrow to medium width. The leaf blade of 'KLEVP20052' is short and very narrow to narrow while that of 'Lanai Twister Burgundy' is of medium length and narrow. The corolla of 'KLEVP20052' has a small to medium diameter while that of 'Lanai Twister Burgundy' has a medium sized diameter.
Description:
PLANT: upright growth habit, narrow just after the start of flowering
STEM: no anthocyanin colouration on middle third of actively growing stem
LEAF BLADE: short, very narrow to narrow, ovate shape, no divisions, dentate incisions of margin, medium green upper side, no anthocyanin colouration on upper side
PETIOLE: very short
INFLORESCENCE: medium diameter, broad obovate in profile
FLOWER BUD: light violet (RHS 77D) just before opening
FLOWER: single type, free arrangement of corolla lobes
CALYX: anthocyanin colouration distributed at teeth only
COROLLA: small to medium diameter, more than two colours present, shaded colour pattern with distribution lighter towards base, red purple colour group, inner side of upper two lobes dark purple red (RHS 60B), inner side of lower three lobes medium violet (RHS 72B), secondary colour white (RHS NN155D), weakly fading colour with age
COROLLA LOBE: incurved along longitudinal axis, very weak undulation of margin
COROLLA EYE: absent
COROLLA TUBE: medium length, tip of protruding hairs is light green yellow
Origin & Breeding History: 'KLEVP20052' originated from a cross conducted between the female parent designated 15.5139 and a male parent designated 15.5170 in Cobbity, New South Wales, Australia in November 2015. In October 2016, the resultant seedlings were selected based on their plant growth habit, flowering time, length of flowering period and disease reaction to powdery mildew. The selected seedlings were evaluated in greenhouse trials from 2018 to 2020 and a single seedling was selected for commercialization and named 'KLEVP20052' in May 2020.
Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'KLEVP20052' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 2021/1172, purchased from the Community Plant Variety Office in Angers, France. The trial was conducted by the Naktuinbouw in Roelofarendsveen, Netherlands in 2022. All colour determinations were made using the 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
