Variety Description

Varieties used for comparison: 'RIKA1832M3' and 'Lanai Twister Pink'

Summary: The leaves of ‘WNVERSVPC24' are longer than those of ‘Lanai Twister Pink' and wider than those of both reference varieties The petioles of ‘WNVERSVPC24' are longer than those both reference varieties. The main colour on the inner side of the corolla of ‘WNVERSVPC24' is light blue pink whereas that of both reference varieties is white. The colour pattern on the corolla of ‘WNVERSVPC24' is shaded on all lobes whereas that of the ‘RIKA1832M3' is even and that of ‘Lanai Twister Pink' is even on the upper lobes and shaded on the bottom lobes. The distribution of colours on the corolla of ‘WNVERSVPC24' are lighter towards the apex of the lobes whereas that of ‘Lanai Twister Pink' is lighter towards the base on the bottom lobes. With age, the colour of the corolla of ‘WNVERSVPC24'is strongly fading whereas that of ‘RIKA1832M3' does not change and that of ‘Lanai Twister Pink' is weakly fading to no change.

LEAF BLADE: ovate, no divisions, crenate to dentate margin incisions, medium green upper side, no anthocyanin colouration on upper side

INFLORESCENCE: broad ovate in profile
CALYX: no anthocyanin colouration
COROLLA: free arrangement of lobes, two colours, shaded colour pattern excluding the, colour lighter towards the apex of the lobes
COROLLA LOBE: straight to recurved along longitudinal axis, weak undulation of margin
COROLLA LOBE (INNER SIDE): two colours present, mainly light blue pink (RHS 73D), shaded white (RHS NN155D) secondary colour that is lighter towards the apex, colour strongly fading with age to completely white (N155D)
COROLLA TUBE: tip of protruding hairs is white
COROLLA EYE: small, whitish gree

Origin & Breeding History: 'WNVERSVPC24' originated from a controlled cross between the proprietary female parent designated 'RIKAV17805' and the male parent designated '18VB006-01' conducted in Bonsall, California, U.S.A. on September 24, 2019. ‘WNVERSVPC24' was selected on June 1, 2020, based on plant vigour, foliage colour, flowering frequency, flower size, and resistance to powdery mildew. Asexual reproduction by cuttings was initiated on June 3, 2020.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'WNVERSVPC24' was conducted in a polyhouse during the summer of 2024, at Bioflora Inc., in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included a total of 20 plants each of the candidate and reference varieties. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings transplanted into 15 cm diameter pots on April 6, 2022. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or parts of plants, on May 24, 2024. All colour determinations were made using the 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart. Mean differences were significant at the 5% confidence probability level based on a paired Student's t-test.
