Variety Description
Varieties used for comparison: 'Courtalor', 'Red Prince' and 'Abel Carrière'
Summary: In winter, the one year old shoot of JS4' is light brown while those of Red Prince' and Abel Carrière' are red brown in colour. The leaf blade of JS4' is ovate with medium sized incisions of margin while that of Red Prince' is elliptic with fine incisions of margin. The leaf blade of JS4' has very weak to weak blistering while that of Abel Carrière' has strong blistering. The main colour on the inner side of the flower of JS4' is violet red while that of Courtalor' and Abel Carrière' is pink The flower of JS4' is funnel shaped while those of Courtalor', Red Prince' and Abel Carrière' are campanulate in shape. The plants of JS4' have a second period of flowering in the fall while the plants of Courtalor' do not have a second period of flowering.

Origin & Breeding History: JS4' originated from a controlled cross between the female parent JS2' and male parent Red Prince', conducted in Hazerswoude-Dorp, the Netherlands in June 2015. The new variety JS4' was selected in June 2018 based on its plant growth habit, foliage colour, flower colour, flower number and flower type. Asexual reproduction was first conducted by softwood cuttings in June 2018.
Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'JS4' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 20200837, purchased from the Community Plant Variety Office in Angers, France. The trial was conducted at the Brion Testing Station of the Groupe d'Etude et de contrôle des Variétés Et des Semences (GEVES) in Brion, France, from 2021 to 2022.
