Variety Description

Varieties used for comparison: 'Samba', 'Victoria' and 'Kolmagira'

Summary: The plants of ‘TVP1' have an erect growth habit while those of ‘Samba' have a spreading growth habit. The leaf blade of ‘TVP1' has an absent or very weak undulation of margin while that of ‘Samba' has a very weak to weak undulation of margin. The leaf blade of ‘TVP1' is reddish while those of ‘Victoria' and ‘Kolmagira' are green. The leaf blade of ‘TVP1' has no variegation while that of ‘Kolmagira' is variegated. The first full flowering for ‘TVP1' occurs very early to early in the season while that of ‘Victoria' occurs mid-season. The inflorescence of ‘TVP1' is a simple panicle type while those of ‘Samba' and ‘Victoria' are a solitary flower. The main colour on the inner side of the flower of ‘TVP1' is white while the main colour on the inner side of the flower of ‘Samba' is red and that of ‘Kolmagira' is pink. The flower of ‘TVP1' is bi-coloured while those of ‘Victoria' and ‘Kolmagira' are single-coloured.

Description:

PLANT: weak to medium vigour, erect growth habit, time of first full flowering is very early to early in the season, very short duration of first flowering, second flowering period in fall

ONE-YEAR-OLD-SHOOT: red brown in winter

LEAF BLADE: elliptic shape, narrow, fine incisions of margin, absent or very weak undulation of margin
LEAF BLADE (UPPER SIDE): reddish, dark colour intensity, no variegation, weak to medium blistering
LEAF BLADE (LOWER SIDE): medium density of pubescence

INFLORESCENCE: simple panicle type
SEPAL: very sparse to sparse pubescence, red
FLOWER: white with yellow secondary colour on inner side, large, funnel shaped
COROLLA LOBE: rounded apex
OVARY: absent or very sparse pubescence
PISTIL: same length as corolla tube

Origin & Breeding History: ‘TVP1' originated from a controlled cross between the female parent, an unknown seedling designatd ‘BV010' and male parent ‘Kolmagira', conducted in Hazerswoude-Dorp, the Netherlands in the late spring of 2015. The new variety ‘TVP1' was selected in the late spring of 2017 based on its plant growth habit, foliage colour, flower colour, flower number and flower type. Asexual reproduction was first conducted by softwood cuttings in June 2018.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of ‘TVP1' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 20200838, purchased from the Community Plant Variety Office in Angers, France. The trial was conducted at the Brion Testing Station of the Groupe d'Etude et de contrôle des Variétés Et des Semences (GEVES) in Brion, France, from 2021 to 2022.
