Origin & Breeding History: 'Emperor' (experimental name SC093010R) originated from the cross T814/Cardinal//Auburn/OH413. The original cross was made at Battle Ground, Indiana in 1997. The breeding method was Modified Bulk selection where selections were made for agronomic characteristics and disease resistance from 1998 to 2008. Breeder seed was bulked from F11 seed.

Tests & Trials: The comparitive tests and trials for 'Emperor' were conducted during the 2014 and 2015 growing seasons at C&M Seeds, Palmerston, Ontario. Plots consisted of 8 rows with a row length of 4 m and a row spacing of 15 cm with 1600 plants per plot. Measured characteristics were based on measurements taken from 20 plants or parts of plants, resulting in a total of 40 measurements over 2 years. Mean differences were significant at the 5% confidence probability level based on a paired Student's t-test.
