Origin & Breeding History: 'Garde' (experimental designations LAR18-04850) originated from the cross between 'LNR13-0028' and 'LNR14-1110' conducted in 2016 at Fort Collins, Colorado, USA. From 2016 to 2017, the variety was advanced to the F4 generation without selection in Fort Collins, Colorado, USA. From 2018 to 2022, the variety was advanced to the F9 generation in the group Limagrain North American breeding network based on yield, maturity, lodging resistance, height, disease resistance as well as end use traits such as milling and baking performance. 'LAR18-04850' was identified at the F5 generation in 2018. Breeder seed was established from F9 lines in 2022.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trials for 'Garde' were conducted at Limagrain Cereals Research Canada in Osler, Saskatchewan during the 2022 and 2024 growing seasons. Plots consisted of three replications arranged in a RCB design. Each plot consisted of six rows with a row length of 3 metres and row spacing of 22 cm. The planting density of 250 seeds per square metre, resulted in approximately 3375 plants per variety, per year. Measured characteristics were based on 20 measurements per variety for each year of trials. Mean differences were significant at the 5% confidence probability level based on a paired Student's t-test.
