Origin & Breeding History: 'Fierce' (experimental designations LAR20-25760) originated by crossing the F1 of 'CDC Landmark' and 'AAC Viewfield' as the female parent with 'LCS Cannon' as the male parent. The initial cross was conducted in 2017 at Limagrain Cereals Research Canada Centre in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. From 2017 to 2019, the variety was advanced in the field and in greenhouse to the F4 generation in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The F5 generation was grown as fixed lines in Argentina from 2019 to 2020. From 2020 to 2023, the variety was advanced to the F9 generation in the group Limagrain North American breeding network. Across multiple sites in Western Canada and the Northern Plains of the USA, the variety underwent selection based on yield, maturity, lodging resistance, height, disease resistance as well as end use traits such as milling and baking performance. 'LAR20-25760' was identified in 2020 and breeder seed was established from F9 lines in 2023.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trials for 'Fierce' were conducted at Limagrain Cereals Research Canada in Osler, Saskatchewan during the 2022 and 2024 growing seasons. Plots consisted of three replications arranged in a RCB design. Each plot consisted of six rows with a row length of 3 metres and row spacing of 22 cm. The planting density of 250 seeds per square metre, resulted in approximately 3375 plants per variety, per year. Measured characteristics were based on 20 measurements per variety per year. Mean differences were significant at the 5% probability level based on a paired Student's t-test.
