The upper side of the corolla for 'USCALI67' is lighter blue violet with purple to blue pink secondary colour in the area of transition to the corolla tube and along the veins while for 'Sunbel-labu', it is light blue violet with violet secondary colour in the area of transition to the corolla tube.
Description:
'USCAL67' is a Calibrachoa variety with semi-mounding plant growth habit. The shoots are thin and have absent to weak anthocyanin colouration. The shape of the leaf blade ranges from elliptic to obovate with an obtuse apex. The upper side of the leaf blade is medium green and there is no variegation.
The flowers produced by 'USCALI67' are single type and funnel form. The sepals are lanceolate in shape and anthocyanin colouration is present. The degree of lobing of the corolla is moderate. The flowers are light blue violet with purple to blue pink secondary colour in the area of transition to the corolla tube and along the veins. The colour at the base of the corolla changes to blue violet inside the corolla tube. The veins on the lobes of the corolla are purple and moderately conspicuous. The lobes of the corolla have an emarginate apex and moderate undulation of the margin. The inner side of the corolla tube is light yellow. Conspicuousness of the veins within the corolla tube is weak to moderate. The anthers are yellow.
Origin & Breeding History: 'USCALI67' is the product of a planned breeding program developed by the breeder, Ushio Sakazaki, in Hikone, Shiga, Japan. The objectives of this program were to create new, semi-upright Calibrachoa varieties with stronger disease resistance and superior summer performance. 'USCALI67' originated from a controlled cross conducted on April 12, 2000 between the female parent, a seedling selection with pink flowers designated 'C501' and the male parent, a seedling selection with white flowers designated 'C4601'. The seed from the cross were sown in Gensingen, Germany on February 2, 2001. 'USCALI67' was selected from the resulting progeny on June 24, 2001 based on its growth habit, superior summer performance, large flowers and resistance to the soil fungus Thielaviopsis.
Tests & Trials: The test and trial for 'USCALI67' was conducted in a polyhouse at BioFlora Inc. in St. Thomas, Ontario during the fall of 2005. The trial included 15 plants of each variety. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 4.5 inch pots on August 19, 2005. All colour characteristics were determined using the 2001 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) colour chart and measured characteristics were based on ten measurements.
