Origin & Breeding History: 'KLECA12235' was bred and developed by the breeder, Anita Stoever, in Stuttgart, Germany. The variety originated from an open pollinated cross conducted in August 2008 between the proprietary variety 'CA 08 0011', as the female parent, and pollen from an unknown male parent variety. Plants were selected from the progeny in May 2009 based on flower colour, plant growth habit and flowering time. The resultant plants were evaluated in greenhouse trials from February to May of 2010, 2011 and 2012 in Stuttgart, and were further assessed for flowering time, flower colour, plant growth habit, pH sensitivity and branching characteristics. 'KLECA12235' was selected for commercialization in July 2012 in Stuttgart, Germany.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'KLECA12235' was conducted outdoors in an irrigated hanging basket trial during the summer of 2015 at BioFlora Inc. in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included a total of 20 plants each of the candidate and reference varieties. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 30 cm hanging baskets on May 19, 2015. Each basket contained 4 cuttings with a total of 5 baskets per variety. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants or parts of plants of each variety on July 10, 2015. All colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
