The new variety was discovered and selected by the breeder in Südlohn, Germany in April 2013 based on its plant growth habit, flower size, flower colour and garden performance. 'Wescacandy' was selected for commercialization in April 2014, in Buelton, California, USA. Asexual reproduction by vegetative cuttings of 'Wescacandy' was first conducted in April 2013 in a controlled environment in Südlohn, Germany.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'Wescacandy' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 20142182, purchased from the Community Plant Variety Office, in Angers, France. The trial was conducted by the Bundessortenamt, in Hannover, Germany, in 2015. The colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
