Variety Description

Variety used for comparison: 'KLECA16356' (MiniFamous Double Pink)

Summary: The pedicel of 'KLECA15332' has a weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration while that of 'KLECA16356' has a medium to strong intensity. When fully opened, the inner side of the corolla of 'KLECA15332' is purple whereas the inner side of the corolla of 'KLECA16356' is blue pink. When aged, the inner side of the corolla of 'KLECA15332' is purple to blue pink whereas the inner side of the corolla of 'KLECA16356' is lighter blue pink.

PLANT: spreading growth habit

LEAF BLADE: narrow acute to broad acute apex, no variegation, upper side medium green

PEDICEL: weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration
FLOWER: double type
COROLLA: strong degree of lobing, absent or very weak conspicuousness of veins
COROLLA LOBE (INNER SIDE): mainly purple (brighter and pinker than RHS N74A) when newly opened, purple (closest to RHS N74B) when fully opened, purple to blue pink (closest to RHS N74B-C) when aged, truncate apex

Origin & Breeding History: 'KLECA15332' originated from a controlled cross conducted between the female parent variety 'CA-2011-0526' and the male parent variety 'CA-2011-0603' in Stuttgart, Germany in the summer of 2012. The new variety was developed by the breeder Anita Stoever. The resultant seedlings were selected in May 2013 in Stuttgart, Germany based on plant growth habit, double flower type and flower colour. The selected seedlings were evaluated in greenhouse trials from March to May in 2014 and 2015. A single seedling was selected for commercialization and named 'KLECA15332' in January 2015, in Stuttgart, Germany.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'KLECA15332' was conducted in a polyhouse during the summer of 2018 at BioFlora, Inc. in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included a total of 20 plants each of the candidate and reference variety. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 30 cm hanging baskets on May 6, 2018. Each basket contained 4 cuttings with a total of 5 baskets per variety. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or parts of plants, of each variety on June 18, 2018. All colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
