Origin & Breeding History: 'USCAL81302' originated from a controlled cross conducted by the breeder Mr. Ushio Sakazaki in Higashiomi, Shiga, Japan. The cross was made on May 24, 2015 between the variety 'Aloha Double Pink Star', as the female parent, and the proprietary seedling designated '14CJ25-01', as the male parent. The new variety was selected on May 19, 2016 as a unique single seedling from the cross. Selection was based on growth habit, branching characteristics, double flower type, flower colour and flower pattern. Asexual reproduction of 'USCAL81302' was first conducted by vegetative tip cuttings on May 23, 2016 in Bonsall, California, USA.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'USCAL81302' was conducted in a polyhouse during the summer of 2019 in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included a total of 20 plants each of the candidate and reference variety. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 30 cm diameter hanging baskets on May 6, 2019. Each basket contained 4 cuttings with a total of 5 baskets per variety. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or parts of plants, of each variety on June 27, 2019. All colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
