Variety Description

Variety used for comparison: 'KLECA17002' (MiniFamous Uno White)

Summary: The plants of 'KLECA22491' have a spreading growth habit whereas those of 'KLECA17002' have a semi-upright growth habit. The leaf blade of 'KLECA22491' is longer than that of 'KLECA17002'. The leaf blade of 'KLECA22491' has an acute apex whereas that of 'KLECA17002' has an obtuse apex. The corolla of 'KLECA22491' has an absent or very weak degree of lobing while the corolla of 'KLECA17002' has a medium degree of lobing.

COROLLA: absent or very weak degree of lobing, weak conspicuousness of veins
COROLLA LOBE: truncate apex
COROLLA LOBE (INNER SIDE): no colour change at transition to corolla tube, mainly white (RHS NN155D) when fully opened, newly opened and aged, no secondary colour, no colour change during growing season
COROLLA TUBE (INNER SIDE): medium yellow (closest to RHS 7A), weak conspicuousness of veins

Origin & Breeding History: 'KLECA22491' originated from a controlled cross conducted in May 2016 in Stuttgart, Germany between the proprietary seedling designated 'CA-2009-1427' as the female parent, and the proprietary variety designated 'CA-2014-4088' as the male parent. 'KLECA22491' was selected in May 2016 in Stuttgart, Germany based on plant growth habit, branching, flower size and appearance, and time of flowering. After evaluations in greenhouse for the above criteria and overall performance, the new variety 'KLECA22491' was selected for commercialization in May 2020.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'KLECA22491' was conducted in a polyhouse during the summer of 2023 in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included 20 plants each of the candidate and reference variety. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 30 cm hanging baskets on April 29, 2023. Each basket contained 4 cuttings with a total of 5 baskets per variety. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or 10 parts of plants, on June 7, 2023. Mean differences were significant at the 5% confidence probability level based on a paired Student's t-test. All colour determinations were made using the 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
